THE PLOT

Carmen captivates and provokes, disturbing the composure of everyone she encounters.
Sparks fly when she meets José, but as her passion cools, his turns to obsession.
Can he control his feelings or the woman who inspired them? Will Carmen give up her freedom for anyone?
This tantalizing new production takes place in a torrid South American landscape where small-town boredom can turn nasty.

'OperaUpClose is leading an artistic revolution' - The Sunday Times
OperaUpClose has developed a reputation for intimate, surprising stagings which demand detailed, truthful acting from the singers without compromising on musical standards, always with razor-sharp new English translations and inventive orchestrations.
The company was founded in 2009, has produced 21 operas, was the resident company at the King’s Head Theatre in London (2010 – 2015), is an associate company of Soho Theatre and tours across the UK and internationally.
Our members group attended OperaUpClose productions last year and in 2015:
• Absolutely fantastic production! One of the best things I have seen in a while.
• An unadulterated joy, sublime and funny in equal measure.
• It was a fantastic evening, I have been to opera many times, but I really loved being so close to the artists and be able to really feel it. I will definitely recommend them to everyone I know.
