Vinyl Album Review - "Innervisions" by Stevie Wonder

Details

By the early 1970s, Stevie had already released over 10 albums (remember, he was originally known as the 11-year old recording artist "Lil' Stevie Wonder") and was a household name around the United States, and in much of the English-speaking world. Yet with all of that, 1974's Innervisions catapulted him to a still higher level of superstardom for its incisive sociopolitical commentary on the headlines of the day (Nixon's Watergate, the toll of the Vietnam War on the country, inner city blight, the growing frustrations of the poor in America, and everything in between...). It did all this while being something of a high water mark at the time of exemplary artistry in recording studio craft, while remaining catchy, groovy, and timelessly giving of its sheer musicality.

I've longed for a chance to get together and talk about Stevie's work, and am glad that Alex, one of our own members, is hosting a Meetup event of her own to do just that (thanks, Alex!). Come out and join her next week as she spins Innervisios on vinyl, and we can get into a good ol' discusion on what moves you (or doesn't) about it. This is a cross-posting of an event of the Vinyl Listening Club Meetup. Check out the actual event here:

(And RIP to the one and only Rhinestone Cowboy and the "Other Beach Boy", Glenn Campbell. Thanks for all you gave us, Glenn!)
