Our June Book Club was great. We read "Furious Hours", a true crime story featuring a serial killer, insurance fraud, an avenging vigilante, a sharp attorney and Harper Lee!
Even though a few of us had not completed the book, we had a lively discussion. I decided I will need to re-read "To Kill A Mockingbird" just to integrate what I learned about Harper Lee with the characters in the book. Also, I do not think I would ever want to travel Highway 9 in Alabama alone at night!!
For July and August, we will be reading Eve: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution by Cat Bohannon
THE REAL ORIGIN OF OUR SPECIES: a myth-busting, eye-opening landmark account of how humans evolved, offering a paradigm shift in our thinking about what the female body is, how it came to be, and how this evolution still shapes all our lives today
“A smart, funny, scientific deep-dive into the power of a woman’s body, Eve surprises, educates, and emboldens.” —Bonnie Garmus, #1 New York Times best-selling author of Lessons in Chemistry
Since this is a long book, we decided to spread it over 2 months; this helps accomodate vacations and traveling for all of us. Amazon has it for roughly $14 in Kindle and paperback; Fort Worth Library has ebook and regular formats (at the moment there are holds on all formats)
Since we won't have a new book until September, there is time to share ideas for the rest of the year. One of the things we talked about was possibly doing two shorter books in the same month.
If for any reason you have RSVP'd and find you cannot come, please let us know. Sometimes we have a wait list and this really helps!
In Other News: July 17 ( a Thursday) is Good Trouble Day.
Indivisible 12 is planning a protest in Burk Burnett Park (pending FW permit which is in progress) Time is 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM. Downtown parking is free in several garages after 6. When plans are firmed up I will post more information. We had something like 2000 at the June 14 No Kings event. There are plans for an event in Arlington as well. Betty will have details on that for certain.
See you at our regular lunch and at Book Club!!
