What we’re about
This is NOT a typical, quiet figure drawing group. This is a fun, social, community group. We have weekly Tuesday night sessions, and occasional popups, workshops, and other collaborations with local organizations. It gets crowded as hell. There is inconsistent, spontaneous instruction that is generally focused on loosening up and letting go of perfectionism. There are no requirements for membership; this could be your first time touching a pencil (although that would be weird). We want you and your energy - we don’t care about your resume.
This group has a focus on socializing and getting to know other people. Come prepared to chat with strangers. Everything is always provided. We’ve got snacks but BYOB. Supplies of all manner are provided - big paper, small paper, charcoal, pencils, markers, etc. Feel free to bring your own supplies.
There is an instagram group! It’s @LifeDrawingBoston. Follow! Tag us in your work!
Getting here:
Joy St. Studios is right off the East Somerville green line stop. There is a bike path and a blue bike station steps from the entrance. There is a parking lot for your car.
If you are interested in participating in the carpool program, please get in touch with David at (240) 678-4399.

Historic Portraiture with Cas - 17th Century Edition!! Tix in Description
Life Drawing Boston, 72 Joy St, Somerville, MA, USHISTORICAL PORTRAITURE NIGHT 2
Y'all knooow I've been wanting to do this collab for a while - bringing together my two day jobs (historic interpreting and figure modeling) for a lavish night of historic painting (or drawing or needlework or anything) where you can feel like a regular John Singleton Copley or whoever our library is named after.
You don't have to be interested in 17th century history - this is a great chance for any artist to try and capture fabric, textures, and accessories that we don't usually see modeled today. We look at these portraits all the time - now is your chance to make one too!
Tickets available at the LINK IN BIO - so psyched to be using @humanitix for this event which donates their ticket fee profits to funding education around the globe. You can also get tix at the door by venmo-ing! As with every fun and sexy event this will be at @loov_the 🥂
Full description below ⬇️
Are you tired of drawing naked people? Want to feel like an old portrait artist painting in a smokey French salon?*
Historic Portraiture is your chance to work from a live historic interpreter modeling an exquisite, handmade, historically accurate 17th century gown. Campy, historic, and bourgeoisie all in one night.
First, you'll get a look at the undergarments and structure of 18th century clothing by doing warm up sketches with short poses in undergarments. We'll talk fashion and underwear history, so chic.
Then, watch how an 18th century Lady Person would get dressed in her best gown and draw or paint a 1hr long seated pose with breaks to feel tortured and confused like true artists.
ALL Styles welcome; Media of choice, painting encouraged! Fancy snacks and supplies provided, BYOB (Bev and Berets)
*smoking outside only tho - sry!
