CCSU Bands (Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band) present: "Songs and Dances." The program is a mix of newer and older works for winds, featuring faculty soprano soloist, student soloist, and lots of exciting music.
Many concertgoers have experienced orchestral music or jazz music, but have yet to explore the rich possibilities of the wind band. This course will cover a brief history of the wind band, from its time as a court ensemble in Europe through its place in the world today as an exciting vehicle for renowned composers of all types. The concert program will feature an assortment of newer and older works for winds, all with ties to “songs” and “dances,” and will feature among other things faculty soprano soloist Joanne Scattergood Reeves, a student soloist, and Arturo Marquez’s Danzon No. 2 (made famous by exuberant conductor Gustavo Dudamel). Pre-and post-concert lectures, provided by Dr. Lauren Reynolds, will give attendees an understanding of the medium, knowledge of the literature being performed, and a guide to make the listening experience more meaningful and enjoyable.
The pre-concert talk will begin at 6:45 pm in Welte Rm 021. The concert is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm in Welte Auditorium. A post-concert discussion will be held directly after the concert in the auditorium.
