Asynchronous programming

Details

Quite some people think asynchronous programming is mostly there for desktop applications like Windows Forms or WPF applications. They don’t think it’s worth the trouble to introduce async/await in web applications like MVC or WebAPI apps.
Also, there’s a lot of web application code that tries to leverage async/await, however, it is used in the wrong way. Sometimes in such a wrong way that it can even have a negative impact on the application’s overall performance.
This talk is about showing you why async/await should be used in web applications. It’s also about telling you some Dos and Don’ts you should consider when using async/await in web applications. Once you really understand what these two keywords do you will not find a good reason to not use them going forward. Especially in times where applications need to scale and where applications are deployed to pay-as-you-go environments like AWS, Azure or Google Cloud Platform. Just by leveraging async/await appropriately you can serve twice as many requests with the same infrastructure – and depending on your specific case you can benefit even more!
