What we're about

The purpose of this group is to get people together to enjoy the beauty of our public lands, while getting some exercise. Each month we will pick a State Park, State Recreational Area, or Wildlife Management Area around Lincoln and go for a 3-4 mile hike. We can also take some trash bags and leave the area better than we found it.

Everyone regardless of skill and fitness level are welcome. Feel free to bring your kids. It’s all about getting out and enjoying nature together!

Hike at Pawnee Lake

Pawnee State Recreation Area

A 3 mile hike around the north side of Pawnee lake. This hike is primarily wooded with some grassland.

Brent’s Trail, Northern Loess Hills

Gleason-Hubel Wildlife Area

I’ve mentioned this hike more times than I can remember and am opening my yearly trek on it to anyone else who is looking for a challenging day of hills and beautiful views. Brent’s Trail is located northeast of Blair, NE near Little Sioux, IA. This is an 8.1 mile point-to-point trail, so it is strongly advised that we park cars at both ends and carpool people back to their cars when we’re done. I’ve done this one solo, that walk back to the car is murder! If you have trekking poles, I would encourage bringing them as there are some very steep climbs. Also have lots of water on hand and snacks/sack lunch. We’ll try to time it so we can enjoy lunch on one of the ridges.
