What we’re about
PROCEDURE
1. Read a good book (based off the assigned topic, genre, category, style, classification. The gamut will be literary but eclectic)
2. Meet up
3. Drink liberally (or not)
4. Talk about it
WHO?
Your race, gender, religion, or whatever, does not matter. Nor does your level of education or profession matter. However you are willing to read beyond (insert ironic author name here), (insert other snarky author name here) and (insert cheesy genre here). In short, . . . you will be willing to talk about books. Come and find out about reading as a collaborative process because the discussion enhances all of our understanding(s) to such a great degree.
WHY?
Because you think language and ideas are important? Because you miss college? What? . . . you never went? Who cares!!! Is English your second or third language? Then come!! You like to read good literature and stay up late talking about it. And best of all, . . . Because a book club should kick ass!!
THE PLAN: The Reverse Book Club is to meet every few weeks (subject to holidays and other catastrophes). This will suit the Book Junkies out there; they will get a fix at least once a month (aside from other book club addictions). However the location will not remain the same. It will ALTERNATE to different sides and parts of the of the city. This will result in some folks only coming monthly when it's closer (until they need to up the dosage).
THE LOCATION: As an organizer, . . . It will be far easier to have the same locations. But as far as in the spirit of enjoying life and coupled with experiencing the tales in the tomes, we will rove to varied locations. Pretty much it's a laundry list of Dive Bars all over the city. But also bookshops, antique stores, or even open air amphitheater's . As well as teahouses, diners or whatnot.

OPRAH"S BOOKCLUB PICK
Set in the fictional town of Old Ox, Georgia, at the very end of the Civil War, Harris’s powerful first novel centers on brothers Prentiss and Landry, who are at last leaving the plantation where they’ve spent their entire lives, and grappling with what will come next. “As I read this masterful novel,” Oprah said, “I kept thinking—this young 29-year-old is a first-time author, so how did he do this?” She continued, “As the best writers can do, Nathan takes us back in time, and helps us to feel we are right there with Prentiss and Landry as they get their first taste of freedom. I rooted for them, and feared for them, too.”GOODREADS

In the spirit of The Known World and The Underground Railroad, a profound debut about the unlikely bond between two freedmen who are brothers and the Georgia farmer whose alliance will alter their lives, and his, forever. In the waning days of the Civil War, brothers Prentiss and Landry—freed by the Emancipation Proclamation—seek refuge on the homestead of George Walker and his wife, Isabelle. The Walkers, wracked by the loss of their only son to the war, hire the brothers to work their farm, hoping through an unexpected friendship to stanch their grief. Prentiss and Landry, meanwhile, plan to save money for the journey north and a chance to reunite with their mother, who was sold away when they were boys.
Parallel to their story runs a forbidden romance between two Confederate soldiers. The young men, recently returned from the war to the town of Old Ox, hold their trysts in the woods. But when their secret is discovered, the resulting chaos unleashes convulsive repercussions on the entire community. In the aftermath of so much turmoil, it is Isabelle who emerges as an unlikely leader, proffering a healing vision for the land and for the newly free citizens of Old Ox.
With candor and sympathy, debut novelist Nathan Harris creates an unforgettable cast of characters, depicting Georgia in the violent crucible of Reconstruction. Equal parts beauty and terror, as gripping as it is moving, The Sweetness of Water is an epic whose grandeur locates humanity and love amid the most harrowing circumstances.
