RSVP is required. Text me in advance, if possible, and let me know you are coming. If you can’t text me, leave me a message on my phone. My cell: 801-278-5313.

During peak growing season, we are working in our 8 gardens nearly every morning and night except Sunday. I may or may not be there when you arrive so please contact me if you don’t know what to do when you arrive. I can let you know who is working that night and what needs to be done via the phone or text message, if necessary. If you are new to our gardens, contact me so I can arrange for you to work with one of our seasoned members and get a quick tour.

The very best way to stay in the loop while our garden season is in full swing - get Text Messages!

Since things are happening so fast now, I can't update my online calendar or garden newsletter quick enough. We are working in our 9 gardens 6 days a week except Sunday (an agreement we have with the homeowners).

To keep you in the loop on a daily basis, sign up for our free Garden Text Messages, if you haven’t done so already.

No worries if you don’t receive Text Messages. See info below.

By receiving text messages, you'll hear the very latest on what's happening, which gardens we are working in, type of work to be done, type of food and harvest available, etc.

FYI: Food and harvest is distributed to ALL those who work in our gardens. Always RSVP so we know how much to bring.

It’s easy to start receiving messages today.

Send me, Sheryl McGlochlin, a text at 801-278-5313. State your name and ask to receive Garden Text Messages from me. You’ll receive a confirmation text.

When you receive messages from me to come and work and pick up harvest, ONLY respond IF you are able to come. No need to respond if you can’t come.

Once you have started working in our gardens, you will be placed on our VIP Text Message List which means you have a priority status and will be the first to hear what’s happening!

For those who don’t text

No worries!

Contact me either by phone or email to let me know WHEN you would like to work in our gardens. If possible before contacting me, get familiar with the days and times of our group work sessions posted on my online garden calendar at liveandthrive.com. Pick a day and time from our current schedule.

Once I know when you are coming, you may just show up each week at the scheduled time and day. Bring a cell phone, if possible, so if you don’t see us immediately you can find out which nearby garden we are in.

If you can’t attend for a week or longer, no problem, just let me know.

If your schedule doesn’t match up at all with our scheduled group work sessions posted online, it’s not a problem. Contact me to work out a time that will fit your schedule the very best. I’m flexible.

You have TWO basic garden areas to work in. Choose one or help us in both if you like. Areas include: 1) Holladay 2) South & West Jordan

What we are currently growing or will be growing soon:

Bush and Pole Beans, Beets, Carrots, Cucumber, Garlic, Herbs i.e. basil, chives, oregano, sage, mint, rosemary, anise, thyme, dill, cilantro, etc.

Kale, Swiss, Chard, Spring Mix, Leaf Lettuce, Mustard Greens, Collards, Onions, Peas, Parsley, Peppers, Potatoes, Pumpkin, Radish, Rhubarb, Spinach, Squash - Summer & Winter, Sweet Corn, Tomato, Turnip, Watermelon & other melons, etc.

MORE INFO:

All 3 Holladay Gardens are not far from each other so call me if you are going to come later so you know where to find us. 801-278-5313

I have a few assistants so you will always be working with others who know what we are trying to accomplish, so you won't ever be working alone.

Garden experience is helpful but NOT required, just come with a willingness to help in any way you can.

You may stay and help as long as you like. You are not required to stay the full 2 hours.

If you are new and would like to come and just look around for a minute, feel free to do so. We'll give you a quick tour of what we are doing and you can see the garden we are working in.

The type of garden work you may be doing could change from week to week, so you learn many aspects of gardening.

There really is something for everyone to do regardless of your physical abilities. We need you and there is a place for you here.

Harvest and/or food available changes on a weekly basis! You never know what food you'll be receiving but there is always something for those who help us work.

To receive the most benefits, come on a regular basis, as much as possible. You'll receive the most food along with getting valuable hands-on gardening experience.

NOTE: If you want to work in our Holladay Gardens but are unable to come at this time, let me know.

OUR MISSION…

to help our members

  • learn how to grow food
  • enjoy working in our many gardens
  • receive plenty of delicious, home-grown produce

BENEFITS of COMMUNITY GARDENING

Even after several years, I continue to be amazed at the amount of work accomplished in our gardens by a few people within an hour or two. It’s quite miraculous!

WHERE:

Within 24 hours of the work date, I may update the calendar regarding which garden we are working in. We have nine gardens in the Salt Lake valley located in Holladay, South Jordan, and West Jordan. Please check the CALENDAR (http://www.liveandthrive.com/Gardening/Calendar) or Text me before coming to make sure you are going to the right place. In January, we start working in one garden at a time until all nine gardens are open and running by mid-April.

WORK TO BE DONE:

Type of garden work will vary from week to week depending on what’s happening with the weather, the season and the needs of a particular garden. This info will be updated within 24 hours of the Work Date as well. Check the CALENDAR (http://www.liveandthrive.com/Gardening/Calendar) before coming OR send me a Text so you can start receiving TEXT messages from me on the very latest work to be done.

TOURS:

During a group work time, new people are invited to take a look at what we do, without actually working. Come and check us out to see if we are a good fit for you! If you would like to work with us, you are invited to do so.

HARVEST & FOOD:

Generally speaking, every week there is some type of food available for those who work. It may be a meal I’ve prepared, harvest from the garden or food that we receive from local businesses. You never know what it may be but one way we show our appreciation to those who work with us is by feeding them.

MEETING IN PERSON

Besides receiving more information about our group, we want to learn more about you and why you are interested in our group. Tell us a little about your skills, experience, knowledge, talents, etc.

GARDEN CALENDAR

Know the latest on what’s happening. Get acquainted with our TWO garden calendars and learn about updated info on where we are working and what we are doing. Check one of these calendars 24 hours prior to a work date to make sure you have updated info. Additional work days are added to the calendar as well, as the season progresses. 1) LIVE AND THRIVE CALENDAR (http://www.liveandthrive.com/Gardening/Calendar) 2) MEETUP CALENDAR (https://www.meetup.com/HealthyEatingGardenGroup/%23)

TEXT MESSAGES

I send the very latest info via text message. To be in the loop, text me, include your name and a message stating you want to receive Garden Text messages. My cell: 801-278-5313.

INVITE A FRIEND

Help us spread the word since we are always in need of more help. They may come and work or just take a look.
