Try Fasting 2012 (Join Muslims in Fasting Ramadan for One Day Only)

Greetings of Peace to the souls benefiting from Living Interfaith Church.

I would like to invite you to participate in an exercise that will affect a greater understanding of your Muslim neighbors.

Please consider joining Muslims in fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, but only try one day of fasting: August 3, 2012.

The method of fasting, for the Muslim, is no food or drink, no "conjugal relations", from dawn (not sunrise) to sunset. As Ramadan falls in August this year (a lunar calendar is followed) the day will be quite long. If you feel that this would be too difficult perhaps try fasting from sunrise to sunset, or for a designated 8 hours of the day.

An alternative is to purchase food items that you would have eaten during the day and donate them to a foodbank or to feed one additional person for every meal during that day.

Perhapse we can reflect together on our experiences of this exercise after services on August 5.

I've committed to fasting on August 3rd. There will be an opportunity for others to make that commitment at the service this Sunday (June 24th). While there won't be a service on August 5th. There will be a breaking of the fast discussion and meal (iftar) at sundown on August 3rd.
