Please join us at Flyleaf Books on Sunday, May 19 at 2:30 pm, to hear Jessica Jacobs and Gary Phillips read from their new books. Each poet will read for about 20 minutes, and the readings will be followed by an Open Mic.
Jessica Jacobs is the author of unalone, poems in conversation with the Book of Genesis (Four Way Books, 2024), her third poetry collection. She is the founder and executive director of Yetzirah: A Hearth for Jewish Poetry. Her book, Take Me with You, Wherever You’re Going (2019) was one of Library Journal’s Best Poetry Books of the Year, and winner of the Devil’s Kitchen and Goldie Awards. Her biography-in-poems of Georgia O’Keeffe, Pelvis with Distance (2015), won the New Mexico Book Award in Poetry and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award.
Gary Phillips is the author of the chapbook Subjects Suitable for Poetry (Charlotte Literary Press, 2023). His book of poetry and occasional pieces, The Boy The Brave Girls, was published by Human Error Publishing (2016) in Wendell, MA. A former poet laureate of Carrboro, he lives in a rammed-earth house with his wife in Chatham County. A child of Appalachia, Gary is a writer, naturalist and entrepreneur.
Featured poets will each read for 20 minutes, followed by a short break to sign books, then the Open Mic. (Please limit your reading to one poem, one page.)
Come early to socialize and sign up for the Open Mic. Hope to see you there!
