London Accessibility Meetup #17
Details
At this month's meetup we have 2 talks looking at how to make websites accessible. Heydon Pickering returns with a case study about about the ups and downs of creating an accessible design system in a rapidly growing company, Bulb. James Hall provides insights into how we can help as a community to support our local council in a productive way.
TALK 1: How we can all help drive local accessibility forward, James Hall
Recently SOCITM (Society for IT practitioners in the public sector) performed their latest assessment on local authority websites and 40% of those sites tested failed basic accessibility tests. With local budgets being cut we are finding web teams in local authorities becoming increasingly stretched and in some places removed. This is when we can all step in to offer a helping hand and to find out how we can help our local council.
In this talk James, Creative Director at HeX Productions, will share his experiences in working at a local authority both as an employee and as an owner of an agency who themselves are going through a full accessibility journey. The talk will outline how we can help as a community to support our local council in a productive way.
TALK 2: Making Bulb More Accessible, Heydon Pickering
A case study about the ups and downs of creating an accessible design system in a rapidly growing company.
Heydon is an inclusive designer who specializes in programming accessible web interfaces. He has written 2 books, Inclusive Design Patterns and Apps For All, and writes the blog Inclusive Components, which explores common interaction patterns through the lens of inclusion.
