Shape Up – Transforming data into the best shape for analysis and visualisation

Details
UPDATE: We currently have 378 people signed up and the space fits 108. The percentage of people who actually turn up for a meetup event is about 30% so there is just a small chance that we may need to turn a few people away. It has only happened once before in over 60 meetups. But if it's really important for you to be there, then it may be prudent to arrive at 6pm.
Our data is often not in the right shape that we can analyse and visualise it. We’ll describe what a good shape looks like, and how we can bend our data into shape.
The three presenters are Chris Barber, Rishi Sapra and Mark Wilcock. We look forward to welcoming you.
We are setting up the space in hackathon style - tables of 6 people. We'd like each table to work together on the group exercise. If possible, please bring a laptop with the latest version of Power BI Desktop installed and download the baby names and longevity datasets for the exercise from http://bit.ly/39oVCmo beforehand. Don't worry if you can't, as long as we have one or two laptops per table that's fine.
This is the first in a series of seven meetups shows how to solve some analytic challenges common in business using Power BI. Each event tackles a single challenge - we will describe the problem, explain how we can solve it and then we’ll set an exercise that gives attendees an opportunity to try an example for themselves.
The other events in the series are:
- Dodgy Data – finding and fixing data quality issues
- Pimp My Power BI – building attractive and engaging visuals
- As Time Goes By – dealing with dates and time intelligence
- Not Adding Up – dealing with semi-additive and non-additive measures
- Peer Pressure – using DAX to bring it all together
- Retention and Churn – financial modelling example
