What we're about

I started this group to provide a vehicle for careers, employability and HR professionals involved in any aspects of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance work to meet, exchange ideas and knowledge, network and generally support each other. Unfortunately I moved away from London not long after founding it, so I've not had the time to build it up (or even maintain it) as I'd planned. Any assistance from members in organising meetings would be very much welcomed; please contact me to discuss this if interested.

Although many of us belong to one or more professional bodies (such as CDI, AGCAS, CIPD), and these organisations provide what support they can to their members, the Careers sector seems to be very compartmentalised with little contact or cooperation on the ground between different services and practitioners. And yet, the turmoil of recent years (such as the demise of Connexions in many regions) has led more and more of us to adapt by changing roles, serving new client groups, or switching to the private sector / self-employment. A number of conversations I had with careers professionals from several different sectors highlighted a real interest in getting together with other careers-related practitioners. I am hoping this group can be a catalyst for careers professionals in and around the London area to network in person, leading to greater mutual understanding and assistance between members - not only to help each other on an individual level, but maybe also to find a greater sense of our shared identity as careers workers.

This group is open to all those working in roles which are directly or indirectly connected to the Careers / CEIAG / Employability fields (such as careers advisers/coordinators/coaches/educators/consultants/writers/counsellors/information officers, SEN coordinators, Next Step advisers, employability advisers, employer liaison, researchers, commissioners, HR and recruitment personnel etc etc). The main purpose of the group is networking, but its future direction will be shaped by the needs and preferences of its membership. I don't see it as replacing the networking events of the professional bodies, but complementing them.
