What we're about

This is a group for people who love to hear live music - americana, country, folk, blues, bluegrass - but don't necessarily want to hear it on their own. If you love live music and great people, join us!

We go to a variety of gigs and sessions around London. Sometimes it's a set of new local bands we don't know about. Sometimes they're great, sometimes not - that's part of the joy of discovering new music! Sometimes we organise trips to big concerts by touring international artists too, or go to festivals. We even did a trip to Nashville!

If we're going to listen to someone you like or if you want to take a chance and maybe discover some great new music, come along - we’d love to see you!

What sort of music?

We've been to see: folk, americana, blues, bluegrass, blues-rock, alternative-indie, indie-rock, honky-tonk, Cajun, world, roots, nu-folk, folk-rock, folk-pop, folk punk … just to name a few. Some of the artists, big and small, include: Sarah Vista, The East Lonesome Drifters, The Afrocelt Sound System, The Handsome Family, Yola, Neko Case, Roseanne Cash, Rising Appalachia, Danni Nichols, The Rails, Calexico, Tift Merritt, The Secret Sisters, Basia Bulat, The Lake Poets ... and a Johnny Cash impersonator. (He was awesome.)

How events work

Some events are cheap or even free. Others are pricier, big venue gigs. Tickets aren't provided by the group - everyone buys their own - but ticket links will be provided. Some of the gigs sell out fairly quickly so please try and buy in advance so that you definitely get to come!

Every event will have a host. They'll give instructions on how to find them and the rest of event attendees. In return, look for them and make yourself easy to find.

Can't make a gig? Cancel your RSVP and/or let us know.

Suggestions?

We're a member-run group. If you've got a suggestion for a gig, contact an organiser. Note, it has to be a gig you'd attend anyway. Don't use this as PR for your events, your husband's band, your friends' act, etc. We don't do open mic nights either. The more lead-time before the gig, the better. Your organisers don't have the time (or inclination) to go to everything, so if you're willing to act as host for other members, great! Don't be upset if no one seems interested. People are busy and maybe the gig is just not at the right place or time.

Hope to see you soon!

BLUES: The Sunday Blues Jam @ Blues Kitchen, Camden

Needs a location

This event is free.

From the website....
"London’s biggest blues jam is the perfect place to see out the week. Catch the cream of London’s blues scene playing together on stage. If you are a musician, bring your instrument down & get involved.
Free Entry. Live Music from 8pm."

Meet at the far end of the bar near the stage (its not that long) at 7:30. If I can get seats I will. I think I look like my photo but I've had some useful feedback from some other gig goers who've told me I'm much fatter in real life, so if you can't spot me my number is[masked] - whatsapp is best. I will be wearing a salmon pink and navy rugby polo shirt.

Memphis Blues HOLIDAY

Needs a location

The date on this event is just a place holder.

Hi putting this out there to see if anyone is interested in going to Memphis for a week. I have a stack of holiday this year because of Covid.

Everyone would sort there own accomodation and flights but if we coordinate we could share taxis into town.

My thought is......visit Graceland, Sun Records, Stax museum etc and eat Southern food during the days and go out to Beale Street to check out a different bar with a band each night.

Any interest?

Oh Boy Records UK tour

Needs a location

From the record label of the late John Prine, Oh Boy Records announce the first ever EU/UK Tour this June, featuring the brilliant Arlo McKinley, Emily Scott Robinson and Kelsey Waldon! They will be stopping in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Dublin, Hamburg & Amsterdam. John’s wife, Fiona, will host select evenings. Oh Boy & artists' merchandise will be available at each show.
All three artists will perform sets packed with their new music - and each night there will be a special nod to John Prine.

Tickets £17.45 inc. post. There doesn't appear to be any print at home option.

Tickets for Arlo McKinley | TicketWeb - St Pancras Old Church in London, GB

Suggest we meet nearby for a drink before the event. If anyone has any suggestions, please post and let us know. Will update as soon as can and give my mobile number before the event.

Black Deer festival 2022

Needs a location

Third time lucky?

A festival of Americana and Country music, within easy reach of London. It was a top event the year before everything went to hell and this year we're finally going again! The lineup for 2022 includes:

Wilco, The Dead South, The Waterboys, The Milk Carton Kids, the Felice Brothers, Lucinda Williams, Secret Sisters, Emily Barker ...

The festival site is just outside Tunbridge Wells, and there is a regular shuttle bus to-and-from the rail station there (so you can stay offsite). There's the usual camping, stores, eats, dancing classes, paraphernalia, food, drinking, axe-throwing ... It's not a small festival but it's not huge either. Why not come along?

See the festival website for more details: http://blackdeerfestival.com/
Let's setup a Whatsapp group for coordinating, discuss what to see and go on from there. It's festival time again!
