What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in collaborating with other data hackers on data science projects.

The goals are to get data and programming enthusiasts together, form groups and work on interesting problems or even just discuss the latest tools & techniques available to the data science community.

These will be accomplished by holding regular coding dojos in R and Python, where you can suggest any ideas to work on. We will also host quarterly Kaggle hackathons, where we spend the day working on Kaggle competitions.

If there are any other ways that you'd like to work and share your ideas and passion for data science feel free to contact the organisers.

Rooftop Data Science

Hi All As it's summertime we’re delighted to announce a Rooftop Data Science event for Wednesday 21st August 6-9 PM which will be taking place at Decibel Insight’s (https://www.decibelinsight.com/) office, 89 Worship Street, EC2A 2BF. Don't worry if we have rain, there is space indoors too! As always, this will be an attendee-driven evening of hands-on coding on any data science topic you’re interested in so please remember to bring your laptop (having a working Python or R installation ready to go is a good start!) and come ready with ideas for topics to work on. The structure of the day will be as follows: • 6:00 – Arrive, chat, eat, discuss and present topics to work on for the evening • 6:30 – Work on selected topics • 8:45 – Lightning talks for anyone who’s interested • 9:00 – Drinks at a nearby pub Please be aware that, for security at the door, you will just need to RSVP with your full name. Hope to see you all there!

Data Science hackathon

The Microsoft Reactor London

Hello All Data Hackers It's time for another data science hackathon, which will be held on Saturday September 7th. The hackathon allows data enthusiasts to come together to form teams and work on competitions from Kaggle (https://www.kaggle.com/) and other data science competition platforms. All levels from complete novices to experienced data scientists are welcome at the meetup. The most important element is your enjoyment of data science. A huge thank you to Microsoft Reactor who are kindly hosting us for this event at 70 Wilson St, London EC2A 2DB, and, as always, another massive thank you to Jo-Fai Chow from H2O.ai (http://www.h2o.ai/) who are providing us with the pizza for lunch. If you want to see what Kaggle competitions are currently available, check them out here (https://www.kaggle.com/competitions), alternatively there are also some from CrowdAI (https://www.crowdai.org/challenges?challenge_filter=active) and Driven Data (https://www.drivendata.org/competitions/). If you are a newcomer to data science, please check out the Titanic (https://www.kaggle.com/c/titanic) tutorials -- there will be a Kaggle 101 group during the hackathon where this is often explored. Also, if you know of any other data science competitions or have any other projects don't be shy! You're welcome to work on them and get others involved on the day or through our Slack channel (http://datascienceworkshop.slack.com/), for which auto-enrolment is available here (https://launchpass.com/datascienceworkshop). Our rough agenda is: • Arrival from 10.00am for tea/coffee and project discussions • At 10.30am, form teams to start hacking away at data science competitions • Break for lunch around 1.00pm • Start hacking again! • Lightning talks from 4:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there — London Data Science workshop organisers • What to bring: Laptop with an R and / or Python environment. • Important to know: Please ensure that your full name is recognisable from your Meetup signup, as full names are required for admittance to the venue. Please note that all participants are expected to adhere to the Microsoft Reactor Code of Conduct (https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/reactor/CodeOfConduct).
