Details
London DevOps returns for 2021 with two talks, and a social event all taking place over Zoom. The Zoom link is https://adaptavist.zoom.us/j/93592244170
Please see speakers and agenda below;
6:00pm - Introductions
6:10pm - Phil Wigg - Google Cloud, the story so far...
Google Cloud is still in third-place behind AWS and Azure but it's now the fastest growing cloud provider. Why did it get off to a slow start? What's driving its success today? How does Google Cloud compare to AWS? Who is Thomas Kurian and why is he important? In this talk Phil Wigg will take you through a short history of GCP and introduce you to a few of its major products with some hands-on demonstrations.
Phil Wigg is founder of MakeCloud, a Google Cloud consultancy.
6:35pm - Natalie Godec - The Misadventures of One Cloud Function
The more we go into cloud technologies, embrace microservices and venture into the land of serverless, the more data is floating around, ready to be used – or breached. For those of us whose workloads are entirely cloud-native, the data analytics landscape is bright and full of wonders: AWS Lake Formation and Redshift, GCP Dataflow and BigQuery, pockets of ML and NLP tools – everything to build a data platform suited just for your company. “But Natalie,” you say, “most of those services are public APIs, how do you make sure an intruder – or a malicious insider – can’t leak sensitive data from your Big Query datasets?”
Natalie Godec is a Platform Engineer at Babylon Health. Working in a very fittingly named team - Unicorn Ninjas - she gets to build a multi-cloud platform that handles healthcare data in several locations across the globe.
7:00pm - Social Session
We'll use the Zoom meeting to socalise afterwards - feel free to unmute and turn your video on to say hello.
