Forest Bathing Day - Special Forest Bathing session

Details

7th September is Forest Bathing Day!

Join this special session to celebrate.

At 2.5 hours, this session is an extra 30 minutes of time among the trees (at no extra cost).

During this gentle session you’ll be guided through a series of ‘invitations’- carefully crafted exercises designed to help quieten your mind, heighten all your senses and deepen your connection to the world around you. These may take the form of mindfulness awareness, walking & sitting meditations and nature-therapy exercises.

From here, you’ll be invited to bathe in the overall atmosphere of the woods as well as to take a closer look at the finer details of nature around you.

Apart from my guidance, most of the session takes place in silence. It’s an individual practice, enhanced by sharing the space with others. There is an opportunity to discuss our experiences towards the end of the session, over a cup of herbal tea.
No previous experience necessary.

If you're new to Forest Bathing- here is some more info on the practice.

  • originated in Japan where it is known as Shinrin-Yoku and is the cornerstone of preventative healthcare
  • Forest Bathing has been shown to:
~ reduce stress levels ~ strengthen the immune system
~ lower heart rate ~ enhance wellbeing
~ lower cortisol levels ~ increase empathy
~ reduce depression ~ increase creative thinking

What to wear/ bring
Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for walking off the beaten track. It’s a slow-paced session with periods of stillness so on a cool day warm layers are recommended. In the height of summer the woods are wonderfully shady so may be cooler than you expect.

Depending on the weather you may wish to bring sun cream/ waterproofs and a small bottle of water.

Please refrain from wearing strong perfumes as they may mask the natural smells of the woods.

Location
We'll meet in front of Queen's Wood Cafe- Muswell Hill Road, N10 3JP
Queen’s Wood Café is in Google Maps if you’d like some technology to help you find your way.

Travel
Bus: 43 and 134 ‘Highgate Wood’ stop (5mins) .
263 stops at Highgate underground station (8 mins).
Underground: Highgate (Northern Line) (8 mins).
Car: There is free on-street parking in Connaught Gardens. You can then walk through the woods to the cabin (10mins). There are several paths in the woods and it can be confusing. Use the map attached or Google Maps.

Weather/ cancellations
Sessions will take place in all weather, unless it’s unsafe. Getting to know the woods in different weather and seasons deepens the experience.
Should it be deemed unsafe (very heavy rain, high winds or storms) and the session is cancelled, you will be notified the evening before via the email address you booked with. If the session is cancelled, you will receive a full refund.

If you can no longer make a session, please let me know via email. 72 hours notice is required for a full refund.

Safety and Responsibility
As with any natural environment, there may be uneven ground and natural hazards such as tree roots and low-hanging branches. In booking on this event, you agree to take responsibility for your own safety during the session.
