Hashicorp User Group #23
Hi Everyone! As promised, July's event is sorted and ready to go! MASSIVE thank you to the lovely people at Elsevier for agreeing to host us and also for providing the food and drink!! As always, I'm interested in people getting in touch to present their own experiences with the HashiCorp toolset. If you have something that you want to speak about please get in touch with us here - https://goo.gl/forms/BomWAjwOquooVUkO2 Plan for the night is... 6.30pm - Arrive - Drinks, Pizza and socialising (THANK YOU ELSEVIER!) 7pm - Talk - Christian Roche, Senior Devops Engineer @ Elsevier - Hashicorp Nomad cluster on AWS Jenkins is the de facto standard for Continuous Deployment tools and is built around the notion of a master server launching jobs to be executed by agents, which lends itself nicely to the concept of containers. Nomad is a container scheduler developed by Hashicorp, using a declarative approach to manage containers on a cluster. Using Jenkins’ Nomad plugin, we can define a number of specialized Jenkins agents with a set of pre-defined capabilities (e.g, able to run Terraform, Maven, SBT, etc) that will be launched automatically by the master server to execute jobs on an on-demand basis. Using containerization provides for a lot of flexibility with defining and upgrading Jenkins server and agents. 7.45pm - Talk 2 - Nic Jackson - Developer Advocate @ Hashicorp - Consul Connect - Modern Service Networking with Service Mesh A service mesh is necessary for organizations adopting microservices and dynamic cloud-based infrastructure. Traditional host-based network security must be replaced with modern service-based security to accommodate the highly dynamic nature of modern runtime environments. In this talk, we will look at Connect a significant new feature in Consul that provides secure service-to-service communication with automatic TLS encryption and identity-based authorization. We will look at the features of Connect, how to enable Connect in an existing Consul cluster and how easy it is to secure service-to-service communication using Connect. 8.30pm - Remaining beer, pizza and off to the PUB! We are aways interested in people getting in touch to present their own experiences with the HashiCorp toolset. If you have something that you want to speak about please get in touch with us here - https://goo.gl/forms/BomWAjwOquooVUkO2

    What we're about

This group is a place to meet other developers and ops engineers using HashiCorp tools within London! We'll be sharing knowledge on the use of all of the current tooling: Terraform, Packer, Atlas, Nomad, Vagrant, Otto, Consul, Terraform and Vault. We want to give developers and operators that are using these tools in the real world chance to share their experiences. You can learn more about HashiCorp at https://hashicorp.com/ . All slides from talks can be found at http://www.slideshare.net/LondonHashiCorpUs...

We are always looking for interesting and exciting talks for our meetups. If you have something that you want to speak about please get in touch here - https://goo.gl/forms/9hYcSn87JRmuXS662
