Open Data for Development: aspirations and challenges

Details

What are the hopes and aspirations driving open data / open development and what are the challenges and obstacles ahead?

Eliza Anyangwe (https://twitter.com/ElizaTalks) (Guardian Global Development Professionals Network (http://www.theguardian.com/global-development-professionals-network)) hosts a discussion with Ulrich Atz (https://twitter.com/statshero) (Open Data Institute (https://twitter.com/UKODI)), Heather Leson (https://twitter.com/HeatherLeson) (OKFNlabs (http://okfnlabs.org/)) and Claire Provost (https://twitter.com/claireprovost) (Guardian Global Development (http://www.theguardian.com/global-development)) and about Open Data for Development at Mozilla London (https://twitter.com/Mozldn).

Everyone loves the potential of open data for transparency, accountability, innovation, and improved efficiency but what about challenges such as the quality of data sets. Eliza and her panel present a cautionary tale of what could happen if data quality is not addressed.

Nearest tube to MozLDN is Leicester Square, This is served by the Piccadilly line & the western branch of the Northern line. Leave the station using Exit 4. When you get to street level turn left into Cranbourn Street & cross to the other side of the road. Take the first turning on the right into St Martins Lane. Carry on down the right hand side of the street past Noël Coward Theatre, Robert Dyas, and a Starbucks. '101' is a glassy modern office building. If you get to the Duke of York's Theatre you have over shot and need to retrace your steps :)
