August - Lua, LuaJIT & Friends
Details
Hello folks!
Here comes another meetup in our reignition series! :D
How about we get together on August again?
SCHEDULE:
18:30 - Snacks and chatting
19:00 - The price of speed: Lua or LuaJIT? (Etiene Dalcol)
Abstract: Lua has many different implementations and derived languages (among others, these include LuaJIT, TypedLua, Starlight, Ravi, Terra and Moonscript). In this talk we'll compare standard Lua with the popular LuaJIT, known especially for its speed. The topics covered include: compatibility and code styling differences; use cases; and issues you should be aware of.
20:00 - LJ_GC64 (Pete Cawley)
LuaJIT started out only supporting 32-bit architectures. Then it gained a 64-bit port, albeit limited to 32-bits of address space. Then, later, it gained unlimited 64-bit support, albeit with JIT compilation disabled. Then, relatively recently, it achieved unlimited 64-bit support, complete with x86_64 JIT compilation. We'll take a look through this evolution, and delve into some of the technical challenges encountered along the way.

I'd like to thank my employer, Red Badger, for offering the space for us. Please RSVP so we can calculate food and drinks appropriately.
Reach out to Etiene if you want to give a talk :)
Cheers!
