Ana Balica: "HTTP: History and Performance"

The Hypertext Transfer Protocol is one of the most popular protocols nowadays. It’s the language most servers, clients, and even teapots can speak. Learn how and why it became such an ubiquitous part of the web by following the evolution of HTTP.

In regards to web performance, have you ever wondered why are we using minimization, concatenation, image spriting, resource inlining and other little hacks? Befriend the browser and help it to help you deliver the best user experience possible. Find out how TLS and HTTPS affect performance and what to look forward in HTTP/2.

This talk will contain references to archaic RFCs, lots of diagrams and long lists of best practices.

Ana is a back-end developer. She enjoys designing clean APIs, pocking into legacy code and taking detours into strange worlds like the one of Elixir. She's on Twitter as @anabalica (http://twitter.com/anabalica) and on GitHub at ana-balica.github.io (http://ana-balica.github.io/)

Steve Gordon: Docker for .NET Developers

In this talk Steve will take you on a tour of Docker, a modern application packaging and containerisation technology that .NET developers can now leverage. Steve will share with you the Docker journey that his team are on, exploring their motivations for using Docker. You will learn the core terminology .NET developers need to know to begin working with Docker and explore demos that show how you can start using Docker with your own ASP.NET (http://asp.net/) Core projects. Finally, Steve will demonstrate how he and his team have built a deployment pipeline using Jenkins and explore the AWS EC2 Container Services (ECS) configuration they have created to enable rapid, continuous delivery of their microservices.
