What we're about

Power BI is the data service from Microsoft that is creating a real buzz in the analytics and business intelligence community. Business users can get data from almost any source, visualise it and share their insights. It also has great power under the covers to do sophisticated data preparation and modelling and build beautiful dashboards. Users can ask questions of their data with natural language and Power BI will do it's best to answer you .

This group will help you get started with Power BI. We'll offer a mix of introductory talks but we'll also have some sessions for the experts as well. Some of the events will be hands-on.

We meet monthly in Central London on a weekday evening. Please come along - you will be sure of a warm welcome.

The London Power BI Users Group is part of the Microsoft Power BI User Group Program. Microsoft is not responsible for content on this website or activities that take place at Group meetings.

Power of Women In Data - Imke Feldmann - Mastering Recursion in PowerQuery

We're excited to announce our next Power Of Women In Data event of 2021 is with Imke Feldmann.

Mastering recursive operations the low-code-no-code way in Power Query

Power Query allows you to do lots of useful things with just the UI. But for operations where references to previous results have to be made, you need to resort to recursive functions that – so far – require a lot of manually-written code. Think about Bill-of-materials, paginating web queries, dynamically solving hierarchical structures, running totals, dynamically adding columns and much more.

In this session, Imke will present a new technique that largely bypasses the need for coding and allows you to click through the UI as before. Learn how easy it can be to design all kinds of recursive tasks using Lists.Generate or List.Accumulate in Power Query.

Bio:

Imke has been working as a Finance Director, Head of Accounting and Controller for over 15 years. There she fell in love with Microsoft's self service BI stack and decided to focus completely on bringing these tools to life. Now she's providing BI training, consultancy services and developments mainly remote over the internet, living happily ever after…

She engages in the PowerBI and Excel community and takes pride in having been awarded as a Microsoft Most Valuable Professional for her contributions in 2017.

The session will be held over Microsoft Teams. There's no need to have Teams installed, you can watch in your web browser. Register to receive the link. Please keep your camera off during the session - thanks.
