On 6th February 1952 the 25-year-old Princess Elizabeth became Queen Elizabeth II. 70 years later not only is she the oldest monarch ever but the longest reigning and only monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. The Queen is the world’s longest reigning Head of State by a significant margin and is also the only Head of State of several different countries and territories.
She was born on 26th April 1926 when her uncle was destined to be monarch. However, the abdication crisis of 1936 thrust her father onto the throne as George VI and made her the heir presumptive. His untimely death brought her to the throne well before expected.
On this walk we will look at various places linked to Queen Elizabeth II including where she has lived and worked, where she partied in the street and where she has experienced some of her most solemn moments. We will hear about how she became a trained mechanic and why she is banned from a part of one of her royal palaces!
This interesting, informative and at times moving walk will take us through the heart of London and lasts for around 2 hours.

You can access it by the exit to Green Park tube Station (Jubilee/Piccadilly/Victoria lines), or from Piccadilly walk into the park down the path called Queen's Walk for c 100 meters and the statue is on the right hand side near a kiosk selling coffee.
