LWB #24: Blockchain for Healthcare, Ethereum Name Service (ENS)
Curious about Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology and don't know where to start? Our meetup group, which we started in 2014, provides a friendly and welcoming environment to learn more about these fascinating topic. Since summer 2014 we've held regular events in London, based on the successful Women in Bitcoin evenings already happening in the USA, Canada, Germany and elsewhere. Our events are designed to be informative and, most importantly, fun. Leave us a message if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you! PS. We welcome men but we'd think you were even more awesome if you brought along a girlfriend, wife, best female friend, colleague, sister or mother :) Join us at our night of talks and pizza, sponsored by eToro. eToro is a global investment platform which offers stocks, indices, ETFs, currencies and cryptocurrencies to over 9 million clients. For more info, please visit www.eToro.com (http://www.etoro.com/) Pizza will be served between 1830 and 1900 and we'll aim to start the first talk at about 1915. There will be networking after the talks. Please also RSVP to our hosts Skills Matter: https://skillsmatter.com/meetups/11557-london-women-in-bitcoin-august-meetup TALK ONE: ENS is Everywhere - Makoto Inoue The ENS (Ethereum Name Service) offers a secure & decentralised way to address resources both on and off the blockchain using simple, human-readable names. Just as DNS (Domain Name Service) resolves[masked] to 'google.com', ENS resolves '0x5ffc01...' to 'makoto.gitcoin.eth'. ENS has been live for over one year, handling over 180k names, and consistently ranking top 5 at https://dappradar.com. In his talk, Makoto will discuss why ENS was created, where you can find it, the challenges and solutions, and the history of the ENS INO (Initial Name Offering). Makoto Inoue is a web developer working in London. Makoto discovered Ethereum back in March and started a charity study group so that he can learn Ethereum coding with other like minded people (while raising money for Whizz-Kids https://simplybusiness.everydayhero.com/uk/makoto ) . He built Blockparty Dapp to solve his own problem of unpredictable free meetup attendancy rate. The more info is at http://makoto.github.io/me. TALK TWO: Blockchain in Healthcare by Natalie Furness What are the latest developments in the blockchain for Healthcare space? Learn about the current barriers and facilitators to adoption and how you could help influence future adoption. Natalie is an experienced marketing professional who specialises in communicating the value of blockchain technology, to the blockchain curious. Natalie is the Communications Director of Medicalchain, who are empowering patients with control over their healthcare records. She also co-organises events for WITechRev, an organisation focused on connecting and empowering diverse, talented, individuals, who are working to revolutionised the tech industry 4.0. As Neha and Rhian are both out of the country, LWB members Samantha and Savannah from YAP Global have kindly agreed to host this meetup. YAP Global (yapglobal.com) is an international PR and communications firm that works with meaningful fintech, blockchain and cryptocurrency projects with stories we believe should be heard on the global stage. Our mission is to be the bridge between quality journalism and emerging technology companies who are making a difference in the world.
