Do you like Lego? Do you live in London? Are you old enough to buy a drink in a pub?
This is an early evening get-together in central London for Adult Fans Of Lego, or AFOLs for short, based in or near London. It is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 who likes to build with Lego, no matter what their skill-level is. Whether you live in London or are visiting from elsewhere, you are welcome to come along and have fun with Lego.
Usually we meet in a pub function room (with a private bar), buy a drink, tip out huge amounts of Lego bricks and get building. Some Meetups are more structured than others with games, set-building and competitions; other times it's a free-build. You might also find people swapping the latest collectible minifigures.
We get together on the second Monday of each month, usually in a pub near Euston. Occasionally, we hold our meetups up at other locations. These have included outside on the grass of Gordon Square (in the summer), Lego's London office, the Brick exhibition in Excel, a cinema and Legoland Windsor.
The group has its own stock of LEGO bricks, so no need to bring your own.
People - We attract all sorts of people from a wide range of backgrounds. We are about 60:40 male:female. Attendance is usually 40-50 people.
Age range - we have members in their late teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s, with 30s being the median group - just. If you are aged 16-18, you can come as long as you are accompanied by an over-18 year old. This is because we meet in central London in the evening, and we want to be sure you get home safely at night.
Photos - members take pics and upload on to the Meetup site, or the London AFOLs Facebook page. You need to be comfortable with a picture of you appearing online.
Accessibility - the venue is on the ground floor, with one step to descend from street to room. There is a temporary ramp which can be deployed to aid wheelchair users.
Donations - Please contribute at least £3 per Meetup, cash in the red collection tin. Alternatively, buy one of our London AFOLs minifigures. This covers room hire, Meetup website fees, Lego bricks, a drink or two for the organiser / presenter, etc.
N.B. We are a Recognised Lego User Group (RLUG), meaning we are supported by The LEGO Group in Denmark and have a good relationship with them. However, we are neither controlled by the company nor sponsored by them.
