A fascinating free walk with a qualified City of Westminster guide for Local London Guiding Day.

Come and join us on a gentle stroll from 17th century Covent Garden to 21st century Aldwych, not only enjoying the old and new London but also meeting the Influencers who have played key roles in London's and indeed Britain's history, paving the way for our modern age.

Come and hear their amazing stories and how they have enriched our lives today.

A walk through time focusing on people of African heritage . The walk is taking place on Sunday 8th October 2023.

Whilst we rightly celebrate the ‘Windrush generation’ who arrived in the UK from the Caribbean after World War II (75 years ago this year) we sometimes forget that the contributions of black people to this country dates back hundreds of years. On many occasions in the past this contribution has been overlooked.

On this walk we we will open a window on a small part of the rich and interesting history of black people in London. We will encounter heroes and heroines of war, black Georgians and anti slavery campaigners. We will also learn about political trailblazers as well as those who have campaigned for racial justice up to the present day.

This walk was curated by Philip Scott and Dr Stephen King both qualified City of Westminster guides.

The walk is in aid of the Farm Africa charity who support farmers in Africa. All proceeds (minus the Eventbrite booking fee) will be donated to the charity.

Meet your qualified City of Westminster tour guides outside Westminster Abbey by the tree outside, near the west entrance (twin towers).
