Spring Boot is a common way to start almost any back-end web application or REST API; but what if you'd prefer to go without Spring Boot and without Spring altogether? Is it possible at all, and more importantly, is it painless? We will work through a common example and see together.

For this talk, a basic knowledge of Kotlin is preferred. After the session, Maryna will share a link to the repository with all the relevant code, so you can fork it and play with it on your own.

About the speakers

Maryna Cherniavska is a back-end developer who's sometimes delving into full-stack. She is open to learning new things, which in the past included Javascript, Node, React and in present Kotlin, but for many years she has been a Java developer.

Right now her main languages are Kotlin and Java, 80/20. She also keeps a programming blog and tries to share her knowledge in other ways by speaking at conferences sometimes, though being an introvert, writing comes more naturally.
