THIS EVENT IS CANCELED. THE STATE PARK IS CLOSED DUE TO DOWNED TREES FROM THE RECENT STORM. Join other single-parent families camping for two nights at Kettletown State Park in Connecticut. Each family is on its own in terms of camping gear and food but we will gather for swimming, hikes, roaming through the forest, and evening marshmallow roasting. In addition, group organizer Allan is happy to talk to any single parents in advance and to help out on site if anyone has not camped recently. Camping is one of the best vacations to do during a pandemic as you are outside and it is easy to keep six feet of distance. Ultimately, your safety is your responsibility. If you are interested to join, please message Allan directly before booking a site. As of this writing there are 12 sites available and you will need to book your own site at ReserveAmerica.com. Preferred sites to be in one area are #23 - 27.
Come join other single-parent families on a three-night, safety-first stay at 1000 Acres Ranch on the Hudson River in upstate NY. See www.1000acres.com for details. My daughter and I were just up there and we loved it. This is what we discovered: - The ranch is amazing with horseback riding, kayaking, swimming, hiking, games, nightly s'mores, and more. - $405 per person for a three-night stay includes lodging, all meals, horseback riding, and other activities; less a 5% discount the owner is giving us means $384.75 per person for three nights. - This is a VERY reasonable price considering horseback riding in the metro area is often $100/hour or $300 per person for the three rides. - It is a four-hour drive from Nassau County, which is a lot, but it should be low traffic going out on a Sunday and coming back on a Wednesday. - The ranch is under new ownership and they are remodeling, so some items (such as the larger outdoor pool) are closed. There is still a smaller pool. COVID-19: We are purposefully selecting a non-weekend as the number of guests will be well below the maximum. It is possible to stay quite safe with all activities outside and your own lodging with separate access. We can choose to eat meals outside, although the cavernous dining hall when almost empty seemed safe too. Ultimately, you are responsible for your own safety. Suggested age range for kids is five through 14, although it is of course up to each parent. We have three families confirmed with kids in the 7 - 8 range, so the trip is a go. If you would like to participate, please RSVP here and message Allan directly with your family details and any questions.
I run an adventure travel company called Zephyr Adventures. Among our biking, hiking, and other active trips around the world we run an annual family tour, which I participate in with my daughter. This tour is not just for single parents but it is single parent friendly. Biased I am but I can honestly say this trip is the best vacation of the year. The kids have a great time doing fun activities and the adults enjoy both some adult relaxation and some family bonding. Our guides take care of the details. On this trip we have horseback riding, (optional) UTV riding, river rafting, hiking, rodeo, pig racing, and more. Appropriate for kids aged 5 - 18. We have four families booked with room for two more. For full details and to book the tour, see: https://www.zephyradventures.com/tour/montana-family/
