What we're about

Members of the Long Island Soaring Association (LISA) fly gliders every weekend at Brookhaven Airport. For those interested in learning to fly, our non-profit club offers the most affordable means of getting in the air on the island. Because flying gliders is a team effort by nature, flying with us also means being part of a tight-knit community of friends. Pilot-members take turns going up, and anyone on the ground helps with the ground operation and/or just hangs out in the shade of a canopy out in the field next to the runway. Instruction is free and all ages are welcome!

Weekend Soaring

Brookhaven Calabro Airport

Give us a call at[masked] for instructions to get into the airport and to let us know you're coming. It's preferable to call a couple days before. Be prepared to spend at least a couple hours outdoors. If you think you want to join the club and learn to fly, we recommend coming to the club house between 9:00 and 9:30 to help with the morning ritual of loading the car and towing gliders out to the field. Check out our website for videos and more detailed information: http://www.longislandsoaring.com/ Fees are listed on the website. Basically, members pay a $41/month membership fee and $39 per flight. Instruction is free and flights can last from 15 minutes to over an hour depending on weather conditions. New/prospective members must take three introductory flights (see website for rates) and attend at least two of the monthly membership meetings before being voted in, at which point there's a one-time "buy in".
