Just as Philanthropy means “the love of humanity” – a philanthropist is defined as “a person who seeks to promote the welfare of others, who donates his or her time, money, or reputation."
This meetup group is intended for anyone interested in sharing their experience and knowledge acquired through humanitarian causes – as substantial knowledge can be gained through others' achievements and experiences.
The cause: As we [a collaboration of doctors, nutrition experts, human rights lawyers and graduates] are working towards the launch of a nonprofit organization aimed at battling one of the largest public health concerns facing the world today: Severe Acute Malnutrition, we are seeking the public's help, through their knowledge and experiences and concrete strategy, to help push the organization forward.
Why? Every year, critical undernourishment (the chronic lack of essential vitamins and minerals) kills 3.1 million children under the age of 5 worldwide, and leaves 161 million stunted (Stunted growth: When a child is unable to grow or develop to their full potential, causing impaired neurological development and learning/physical abilities).
Our mission: To alleviate child malnutrition in the most remote and destitute areas, notably in sub-Saharan Africa, through an innovative nutrition-specific intervention (details concerning the methodology will be communicated through meetups). Our practices are in accordance to the Global Nutrition Report, the FAO statistical division of the United Nations and the SUN movement.
Meetups: We are welcoming all skill levels and across an array of fields, including but not limited to: program development and implementation; health (nutrition experts); fundraising; marketing; finance; legal; human resources; IT; volunteers. All talents/experiences are welcome!
