My name is Russell Jurney. I am principal consultant at Data Syndrome, a product analytics consultancy dedicated to advancing the adoption of the development methodology Agile Data Science, as outlined in the book Agile Data Science 2.0. I’ve worked as a data scientist building data products for over a decade, starting in interactive web visualization and then segwaying towards data products, machine learning and artificial intelligence at companies such as Ning, LinkedIn and Hortonworks. I am a self taught visualization software engineer, data engineer, data scientist, writer and most recently, I’m becoming a teacher. In addition to applied work building analytics products, Data Syndrome offers live and video training courses.

PRESENTATION

Russell will present on Agile Data Science 2.0 (O'Reilly 2017). The book teaches the agile development of full-stack 'big data' analytics applications using Spark, Kafka, Mongo and Python.

The book shows how to use MongoDB with Spark and Spark Streaming to build realtime 'big data' analytics applications. We use MongoDB to drive interactive data tables and charts, reports and full-blown predictive analytics. The talk teaches 'big data' using Spark to a MongoDB audience, where MongoDB is used to publish any data that flows from the back-end to the front-end or back. Come out and learn to use MongoDB in a way that will scale when processing megabytes or petabytes of information.
