Explore the concepts and techniques of playing within a group of drummers. No matter
what type of drum you play, and no matter where you play it, the goal is always the same:
You want to create a good sound!
Beginning Group Drumming focuses on the "secret" of good drumming: Active Listening.
During the two hour workshop we will experiment with the various "types" of drums, and
experience what those drums contribute to the group. Working from "How my drum sounds" as
well as "How everyone else sounds" the students will perform a series of dynamic exercises, with
constructed rhythmic parts from the three page handout, with base rhythms, counter-rhythms, and fills for dynamic exercises to mix and match the rhythmic parts to make a diverse, layered sound. The exercises explicitly foster the active listening and communication skills that create a sense of comfort and develop confidence in adding the sound of your own drum to the group.
And, there will be a Drum Circle directly following the workshop!
