About us
This meetups has its roots as one of the first (large) R meetups in the US and in the World. It was founded in 2009 under the name LA R Users Group, it was also the very first data meetup in the Los Angeles area and later on it became part of DataScience.LA (2014-2021). In July 2021 we moved to Texas and changed our meetup name.
Real Data Science is about methods you can apply in your practice/business applications and not about some overhyped technology that is experimental at best and broken at worse (and in fact of very limited use to you). Many technologies labelled "big data", "AI", "self driving" etc. have been more of the latter. For real world data science applications R is simply the best tool one can use.

This workshop connects applied social science research with practical data skills in a two-part format. The first part presents a large-scale research project on discrimination in the labor market, focusing on how novel data are accessed, constructed, and managed to answer substantive empirical questions. The second part is a hands-on session on web scraping with Selenium, where participants learn how to responsibly collect structured data from public websites using reproducible workflows. The session emphasizes good data practices, from acquisition and documentation to downstream analysis, and is designed to be accessible to researchers working with a wide range of data types.
Join us for a joint event with UC Love Data Week.
NB: Meetup.com is set to Central Time for reasons, this event is at 11am-2pm Los Angeles Time. This workshop is two parts. The workshop will run for one hour starting at 11:00am, have a one hour lunch break, and resume at 1:00pm for the final hour.
