NARD 2021 will be happening on Sunday June 6, 2021, back at our usual location - the north lawn of Pan Pacific Park in central LA!!

It will take place simultaneously with events in more than 60 other cities around the world, plus on Zoom!

This might be our last chance to show the public in a direct way, the connection between eating animals and the pandemic (and all pandemics)! So we need you there now more than ever!

Of course we will keep social distancing, wearing masks and other protective gear, and all other Covid precautions.

Thank you, and more info coming soon,

The NARD LA Team

——-

Dear AR friends,
Thank you for patiently waiting for this year’s NARD event, we are a week away, and therefore we wanted to give you all the info you may need about the event:

  1. General info:
Date and time: Sunday June 6, 2021.
Location: north grass lawn of Pan Pacific park - 7600 Beverly Blvd. LA CA 90036, corner or N. Gardner St.
    Schedule:
  • 10:00 AM: prep
  • 12:30 PM: animal holders check-in
  • 1:00 PM: all other participants check-in
  • 2:00 PM: Ceremony starts
  • 3:00 PM: Celebration starts (until about 4:30 PM)
  1. NARD Waiver:
As in every year, anyone participating in the event will need to sign our legal waiver and release form. To help with the contactless check in process this year, we ask that you fill out the waiver online, as soon as possible, here: https://thenard.org/legalwaiver
  2. Food:
Other than some prepackaged snacks and water, we won’t be able to provide food this year at the event. Therefore, we are starting at 2 PM, to give you the opportunity to have lunch before the event.
  3. The NARD shirt (and dress code):
  • Please come dressed in your NARD Ceremony shirt (the "Our Planet. Theirs Too." shirt) and black pants, as this is a memorial/funeral service for the animals. Out of respect for the animals, please avoid short pants or short skirts.
  • If you don’t have a NARD shirt, and indicated that you needed one, we will have shirts for you there. BUT, we have arranged 2 opportunities for you to pick up your shirt before the event, which we implore you to take advantage of, so that we don’t have to waste precious time on the shirts, on the day of the event:
  1. Pan-Pacific Park -- Wednesday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 7600 Beverly Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036
  2. Fremont Park in Glendale -- Thursday, June 3, from -10 a.m., to 12 p.m. and once again from 5-7 p.m. 600 Hahn Avenue, Glendale, CA 91203

Please email us as soon as you can at: Arpee@ourplanettheirstoo.org to let us know which date/time you will be coming to pick up your shirt! You may also call us at 818.484.0408 with any questions regarding this.

The shirts will be given out for free this year, but if you could help us with any donation to cover our costs, we would really appreciate it! Please do so as soon as you can, here: https://www.thenard.org/donate Thank you!

5. What to bring / not to bring:

  • This year, due to our priority of making things as contactless as possible, we will not be able to provide bag check as we have done in previous years. Therefore, we ask you not to bring purses and backpacks, and keep whatever personal belongings you have, on you or in your car (if safe to do so).
  • You are encouraged to bring sunscreen, water, sunglasses and hats, but we will ask you to take those off during the Ceremony.
  • Please do not bring companion animals, as they are not allowed in this park area, and we don’t want any animal to get spooked by the big crowd that will be there.
  1. Animals:
  • We will have several deceased animals with us in the Ceremony. Many of you have indicated that you would like to hold one of them during the Ceremony, and thank you for that, but we request your understanding that due to the small number of animals, and the large number of you, not everyone will get to hold an animal this year. You will instead hold a poster of an animal, or a banner, which are an integral part of the Ceremony!
  • This week, we will notify those of you who will be holding animals, as you will be required to wear a disposable coverall, and go through a separate check-in (see below!)
  1. Check-in:
  • Animal holders’ check in:
We will need you at the location between 12:30 PM and 1:00 PM at the latest! You will be given gloves, and a disposable coverall to wear over your black clothes (it's pretty thin and transparent, and that's why it's important to still wear black pants). Then, you will be asked to wear your NARD shirt (you will have to have one) on top of the coverall. Please be there on time!
  • Other participants’ check in:
We will need you at the location between 1:00 PM and 1:45 PM at the latest! You will be offered gloves (optional), a mask if you don’t have one, hand sanitizer and the NARD shirt if you don’t have one, which you will be asked to wear for the Ceremony. Please be there on time!
  1. Covid-19 safety:

We care about your safety, and therefore we ask everyone participating in the event to adhere to our Covid-19 safety plan:
Social distancing: A distance of 6 feet will be observed between all participants during the event.

Masks: Masks will be mandatory for all participants. Everyone will be required to wear a mask during the event. We will provide you with a mask if you don’t have one.

Other protections: We will provide each participant with hand sanitizer and gloves, if interested. Additional hand sanitizing stations will be placed in several locations on-site.
Hand Washing: Participants will be encouraged to wash their hands as often as necessary, in the public restrooms on-site.

Contactless Check-in: The check-in process for participants this year will be contactless, and ‘self-managed’.

Food: We will not be providing our usual "lunch" this year. Instead, sealed bags of chips and boxed water will be given out as snacks.
Security: Our security team will be monitoring the event and making sure that all of the precautions above are adhered to at all times.

9. Parking:
There is a free parking lot adjacent to the location (but it tends to fill up very fast), paid parking lots at the nearby Grove, and 2-hour street parking in the streets surrounding the park. We are still working on asking the city to relax the 2-hour restriction, and will notify you this week if and when that is approved! But wherever possible, we recommend carpooling, and using public transportation!

Thank you, and we are looking forward to seeing you on Sunday, June 6!
