Eastside Ruby Study Group

Let's Learn Ruby & Ruby on Rails
One Week at a Time

For your convenience there are two groups meeting simultaneously one on the West side of L.A. in Santa Monica and one on the East side in Glendale (this location may change.)

We meet up with our laptops and are working through Zed Shaw's Learn Ruby the Hard Way. We'll discuss it and go over the examples together. We'll help each other figure out the harder parts and really understand it. You should be able to do some work on your own too so we can all stay on the same page/book on both sides of town.

We meet every Thursday night 6-9pm.

Don't feel intimidated if you are brandy new to Ruby or Ruby on Rails; we will help you get up to speed if you are willing to put in the time. If you are more advanced; you can learn by helping others learn while having a dedicated study night. Maybe you could give a demonstration of something you are interested in and are willing to share with the group.

Once a month both sides of town will meet up and have a demonstration of something new. We intend on learning a lot. Spread the word. You don't have to be a woman to attend but we do want to have a good learning environment where no one is nervous to ask the most basic question.

Make sure to RSVP so we have an idea of who we are expecting. Sometime we are even here earlier than six if you want more one on one time.

Today it was me, Ashley, Stephanie, Brittany, Joanna, Cynthia and Francine. I worked through the first few chapters of the Zed book with Stephanie, Brittany and Joanna while Ashley worked on connecting her twitter ad fb sign ins to her site and Cynthia and Francine worked on a Rails project. We had the meeting room reserved for us so we had a private, quiet room to be loud in. I am excited that we have gotten rolling on this book. I have finished up to ex16 and want to blast through then go back to Chris Pine's Learn Ruby.
