We do timed writings

What is timed writing?

We write with a timer set for an allotted amount of minutes. We write with no inner editor. Most of us like to use pen and paper, to connect the subconscious, the self that learned to write before we were adults with keyboards.

We read our raw work to each other, to lock in our words.

We are not:

We are not here to entertain each other, although we often do.

We are not here to impress each other, although we often do.

We are here to work on our craft, our technique, to lock down story ideas, to work on projects, to get something off our chest.

We write about where our words take us.

We write so we can rewrite.

The process:

The group usually breaks into two: a short write and a long write group.

1. The Long Write uses their own start lines or uses the lines, “today I am writing about”, or “my story is about.”

2.The Short Write group writes in segments of 5, 10, 15, 5, and reads in between each segment. This group contributes start lines, usually from something they are working on or something on their mind. These are six words or less and are pulled from a jar before each writing segment.

We expect:
Respect for each person’s voice.

Quiet attention when each person reads.

No talking during the writing or reading, no comments.

Support, encouragement, praise.

Join us!

Members of the group include published authors, members of the Academy Awards, ex-cons, marketing executives, first time writers, university professors. We have one thing in common: pen and paper and a voice that wants to be heard.

PS:

This group was previously Louisa's Writers group! Our group is going strong, as we transition to a new location. We are now at Vios Cafe in the back of Third Place Books in Ravenna.

We meet from 2-4 pm, beginning writing at 2:30 pm.
