AGL (Linux for your car), Ace, and Autotools
Details
Looks like we have a very interesting program lined up for our KyOSS meeting this Wednesday Aug. 9.
• Dennis Field will be telling us about AGL (Automotive Grade Linux) (https://www.automotivelinux.org/), the open-source project that Toyota and 100 other partners (https://www.automotivelinux.org/about/members) are developing for in-car use. AGL was in the news (http://www.linuxinsider.com/story/84724.html) this week as they released their version 4.0. The 2018 Toyota Camry will feature (https://www.automotivelinux.org/announcements/2017/05/30/automotive-grade-linux-platform-debuts-on-the-2018-toyota-camry) AGL. Dennis is an active contributor to the AGL project.
• Jim Troy will be telling us about ACE (https://ace.c9.io/), an open-source online code editor, and how he is using it in his online learning project at http://ace.jetroy.info/ . ACE is the code editor used by the Cloud9 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud9_IDE) cloud-based IDE, a cloud service whose codebase is open-source (https://github.com/c9). The Mozilla Bespin/Skywriter project was folded into ACE.
• Jeff Squyres will talk about the GNU Autotools (Autoconf, Automake, Libtool) that are typically used for building open source software (usually C, C++, Fortran based applications -- they're not usually used with Java or other compiled languages).
As usual, we'll try to make time for open discussion and any additional ad-hoc presentations you all might have.
Looking forward to seeing you on Wednesday, 6:30 p.m., at TEK Systems (in the first-floor conference room of the Steel Technologies Bldg., 700 N. Hurstbourne Pkwy.).
Our hearty thanks to TEK Systems for sponsoring us by providing both the venue and refreshments!
Come and join us! We usually have between 15 and 25 Linux users, admins, and programmers show up. Good conversation and networking and, often, a great presentation or two.
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month. If we don't have an announced program, feel free to come with a discussion topic or a presentation to make to us! (Or just come and join the conversation!)
