Brazilian-American Cultural Center
Rooted in Afro-Brazilian traditions, samba music features polyrhythmic drumming that tends to bring people to their feet! Dana Monteiro will be leading this fun samba intensive classes. The class will cover the basics: call and response, instrument ensemble structure, and an arrangement.
Dana has twenty years of experience as a music educator in the New York City public school system. He holds a B.S. in music education from N.Y.U., a M.A. in music education from Teachers College, Columbia University and a doctoral degree in music education from Boston University. Originally a classical trumpet player, his interest in Brazilian music began on a trip to Rio de Janeiro, where he was brought by local musicians to the Vila Isabel Samba School. Monteiro has studied at over twenty samba schools in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

Two days and so many flavors of samba! Start off Saturday at 1:30 with "Essential Combinations" of samba to make your samba flow, then go on to 3:45 "Samba Afro" class which combines orixas movements and samba. Sunday's classes start with intermediate level samba at The Brazilian American Cultural Center at 10:30am and finish the four class series with a class teaching Samba de Roda, or samba in a circle. Each class is 90 minutes long. Bring comfortable athletic clothes, face towel, and water. Four Classes = $60
