Intro to Py: File and String Handling

Details
This month our meetup will be lead by PyMke member Whil Hentzen. It will be a beginner level talk on file and string handling, to be followed by a Q&A. For our more advanced users ( beginners are more than welcome! ) we will have a practical hands-on afterwards so bring your laptops and thinking caps!
"It seems that the meetings have been split into half experienced and half newbie. How about a mini-session (15-20 minutes) at the beginning of the meeting for the new folks, tackling a specific problem and using Python to address it. First topic, file and string handling to parse a ridiculously large and stupidly formatted text file. This would be a good opportunity to do a 'code review' on the pros and cons of various techniques as well. "
Whil Hentzen has been typing for a living for the past two decades. During the day, he writes custom database applications, using both Microsoft toolkits as well as Open Source offerings. After dinner, he dons his black cape and fedora to continue on one of the books he's got in the works. His current projects are "Data Munging with Python" and a yet-to-be-named trashy spy novel.
