What we're about

This Open Men's Group is a part of the non-profit Men's Organization, The ManKind Project - https://mankindproject.org/who-we-are/

The ManKind Project supports a global brotherhood of over 1,000 peer-facilitated men’s groups serving close to 10,000 men each week. In an MKP men’s group, men mentor men through the passages of their lives.

When men of integrity and compassion join together to Wake Up, Grow Up, and Show Up, the ripples created can change the world.

Open Men's Groups are regularly scheduled gatherings that help introduce men to the experience of sitting in a supportive circle with other men. This provides an opportunity for men to practice authentic sharing, reflection, and a deeper connection with one another in an open, authentic, and supportive setting.

We are excited to be able to offer an Open Men's Group on the first (1st) Wednesday of each month through the MKP Chicago Community.

Is Men’s Work Right For Me?
Hosted by John Carlsen

Brothers, do you
- Spend much of your free time on hook-up apps or social media?
- Believe you should further along in your life?
- Feel lonely or disappointed in friendships and relationships
- Wonder if life is supposed to have more meaning?

GO WITH US IN A NEW DIRECTION

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, this is your invitation to consider going deeper into personal work. If you have attended our Open Men’s Group, you may have had a chance to share a bit more about yourself than you might typically do, especially with other men. This workshop invites you to consider what new possibilities you might bring into your life if you tried men’s work of the kind we practice in The ManKind Project.

For many men, the idea of looking at themselves more closely seems daunting. After all, we are raised ignore discomfort, keep our feelings inside, tough it out on our own, and maintain a positive, confident public image. These pressures can be especially difficult for us to navigate as men given the unrealistic expectations of attractiveness, sexual performance, financial success, and creativity that our society
imposes on us. This introductory discussion offers ways to step back from these expectations, recognize how our habits might interfere with making changes, and start taking small steps in a new direction that can bring more positive answers to the questions above.

FORMAT

Sitting in virtual circle -- comfortably settled behind our cameras -- we will create an intimate setting in which we can be together authentically for 90 minutes to reflect on our experiences. With Netflix turned off and the snack food/drinks set aside, we can take time to formulate a more honest assessment of how we are actually living our lives. We might notice how our habits often interfere with our intentions, recognize what stands in our way, and share the experience with other men instead of continuing to struggle on our own. We will consider such questions as:

Who am I?
Who do I want to be?
What do I want from life that I’m not getting? and, even,
How do I want to spend the time I have left on this earth?

We hope to arrive at more clues about whether men’s work is a good fit for you and whether now might be the right time to take a next step. You will be encouraged to continue making your own choices with no pressure or expectations related to participate to this session.
