What we're about

A million welcomes into our little corner of the Meetup community, a place to meet likeminded womxn and non-binary people in the ever so brilliant cities of Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds!

This group welcomes all womxn who like womxn! Whatever sexuality you identify as, from lesbian-bisexual-pansexual-queer-gay this group is inclusive. We are also age, ability, race, cultural identity and everything else you can identity as inclusive. We never tell you how old you have to be to attend an event or restrict you narrowly to just identifying as 'lesbian'. Occasionally we might run an event which is specifically targeted as part of our community and if we do that we will always tell you why (an example might be an event centred around qpoc or vegans); this is never to exclude you but to connect an even more marginalised membership of our community.

We are super friendly, always welcoming to our new and regular members, and no matter how you arrive you will most definitely leave with new connections and awesome people to hang out with at future events or meet with outside of the group.

I know how daunting it can be to come to your first event. Will anyone talk to me? Will I connect with other members? Will the ground open and swallow me right up? I promise after the first few minutes of nerves, you'll have been greeted by one of our lovely hosts and be made to feel part of the furniture. If you are super nervous please alert your host and I recommend to always arrive at the start when it's slightly quieter and you can get more individual attention from your host.

With the sharp decline of lesbian bars throughout the UK, Meetup really is the best way to network and make new connections. Events will be varied, including food, film, drinks, art and plenty of virtual events. If you would like to organise an event get in touch!

PLEASE READ

To enable us to build a great community please treat any events you sign up to as if you were meeting a friend; unless you have an emergency (sometimes life gets under your feet!), make sure to turn up on time and give plenty of notice if you are unable to attend. It is only courteous. Imagine if you arranged to meet a friend and you never showed up... that friendship wouldn't last long!

Please note this is a group for adults (18+)

PLEASE DONATE

Meetup currently charges organisers $180/year to maintain these event pages on their platform.

If you can, please donate just a few pounds to the group host via PayPal (LQWMeetup@gmail.com) when you join to help cover these fees.

Those with access to a steady, living income or other wealth are encouraged to donate more.

Please do not be deterred from attending if financial hardship prevents you from donating.

I lost a relative to cancer in lockdown and have sadly lost many to this horrendous disease as I am sure many of us have before and would like to give back this year. Cancer has sadly decimated holes in many of our lives and we can celebrate that by walking though Leeds at night in one of the only cancer research events of the year.

It would be great if any of your would love to come and support a great charity and do the walk with me.

Thank you

LQW: Queer Support Circle 🙏🧡

Online event

There is no doubt that we are living through very challenging times as we have all been touched by the COVID pandemic in one way or another.

Apart from the pandemic we may also be experiencing our own personal problems which together with the pandemic may feel like too much to handle at times.

Or at times we may be feeling a bit more cheerful and we may want to share some of that joy with other fellow humans.

Whatever the case may be this is a support circle for all queer womxn and everyone is welcome regardless of how we are feeling on the day.

THE IDEA BEHIND THIS SUPPORT CIRCLE:

Throughout the last year some of us have experienced job losses, poor health, loss of loved ones, the loss of our social lives and our connection to other people and our own personal problems...the list is too long to include everything here.

At the same time, some of us may also be experiencing fear, isolation, depression, anxiety, addictions, loneliness, other mental health issues, and even desperation.

If you can identify with any of this, welcome! You are not alone! 🧡

This Queer Support Circle (QSC) has been created to offer a safe space to share what’s going on in our lives and connect with other queer womxn that may also be experiencing their own challenges.

The idea is that by connecting and sharing what’s happening in our lives in a safe space we may be able to lessen our isolation and improve our mental and emotional health.

The QSC will provide a supportive, non-judgemental and healing space for all members.

As they say, a problem shared is a problem halved 😊

Also at the end of each session Amaya will give all members distant Reiki over Zoom to help heal some of the issues that members are experiencing (see details below).

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN EACH SESSION:

We will meet fortnightly on a Wednesday evening between 7-9pm (UK time).

Each session will have the following format from beginning to end:

- Short meditation (to relax and ground before sharing)
- Ground rules explained (to ensure a safe space)
- Sharing time (raised hand sharing on any topic/s chosen by each member)
- Reiki (to deeply relax and help heal)

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

To be part of the QSC you just need an open mind and an open heart.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Circle! 🧡

REIKI:

After the sharing time your Facilitator Amaya Garcia will give all members of the Circle some Reiki healing.

This will support all Circle members to finish the session with deep relaxation and to support the healing of some of the issues raised during the sharing.

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique which involves the transfer of energy from the Reiki Practitioner to the person receiving the Reiki by laying hands on the receiver’s body. However, Reiki can also be practiced distantly as energy is not limited by either time or space.

Reiki healing has showed to have the following benefits:

- Promotes harmony and balance
- Helps treat physical, mental, emotional and spiritual conditions
- Triggers very deep relaxation
- Relieves pain, anxiety and fatigue
- Treats depression
- Enhances quality of life
- Boosts mood
- Aids better sleep
- Accelerates the body’s self healing ability
- Helps spiritual growth and emotional cleansing
- Compliments medical treatment & other therapies

Disclaimer:

Amaya is not a doctor so if you think that you may have an issue that needs medical attention please contact your GP.

Also Reiki is not meant to replace receiving medical treatment but to complement it so if you are taking medication or are being treated for a health condition please continue to do so.
