MN Crypto Saturday night hang out in Decentraland (MANA)

Hey everyone!

Brooks Clifford here, the new admin of the group. I think most people saw my first email but I took over this group in early 2021 and have been waiting for the enjoyable MN Summer weather for us to host our first live event of 2021.

While we await the nice weather, I thought it would be a fun idea to host a virtual meetup inside the metaverse world of Decentraland (MANA).

For those who don't know, Decentraland is a virtual world hosted on Ethereum's blockchain and anyone can enter the world, for free, so long you have an Ethereum wallet address connected to your web browser (Metamask seems to be the easiest to use).

So with that being said, I thought it would be fun to have a Saturday night get together in a few weeks here inside the metaverse. The event will begin at my company's virtual office (coordinates 33, 136) and from there after chilling for awhile we can wonder around.

So how do we do this? Well if you are unfamiliar with Decentraland you are going to need a few things.

1st. You need an online Ethereum wallet. I have not tried anything other than metamask. But I can say with 100% confidence if you add the metamask wallet to your web browser, you'll be able to enter the world.
2nd. Although not required you can chat in real life with a headset/mic. If you do not have a headset, you are very much able to communicate via typing but it's definitely more fun with a headset/mic :)
3rd. You do need to be on a decent computer. Unfortunately smart phones do not work. Also, I've found those on old computers that run slowly don't work well either. So I understand there are going to be people who do not have access to a decent computer and for that I sincerely apologize but I don't like the idea of doing a zoom meeting as I personally find them dry and boring.

And quickly here are some things that you DO NOT need to access the world.

1. You do not need to own any cryptocurrencies. Decentraland uses a combination of ETH, MANA and DG to operate the world and to enter the world and engage with people you do not need to hold any of those tokens.
2. You do not need to pay for anything. Creating an account on Decentraland as well as Metamask are free. The event is free. So you should not have to spend any money to attend.
3. As mentioned above, you do not need a headset/mic to join us. It's encouraged because it is more fun to talk vs. type but if you do not have a headset you are still 100% welcome and encouraged to join us.

How do you get to the event?

1. You need a Metamask wallet (or other browser attachment). https://metamask.io/
2. You need to enter Decentraland to create a free account. https://decentraland.org/ (click the GET STARTED tab on the homepage).
3. Once you are inside the metaverse copy and paste this link and click on your browser: https://play.decentraland.org/?position=33%2C136&realm=unicorn-blue

Lastly, I wanted to say because I am sure most of you have not been inside Decentraland before, I am here to answer any questions and help everyone join.

I think this will be a fun first event to kick off 2021 and as the weather gets nicer during the Summer we will plan to do some outdoor events to meet in person.
