Presentation topics, abstracts, speaker bio for this meeting:

#1: Riley Major

Topic:
T-SQL: Squish. Shred. Boom.

Abstract:

Sure, you've written a SELECT or two in your day. Maybe there's a gnarly beast in your past with dozens of tables and sub-queries that you'd rather not think about. But have you really thought about all the ways you can morph data with a humble SQL statement?

Got too many rows? Squish them down. Got a big ball of text? Shred it into the little bits you need. Just not enough data? Blow it up. Boom! Who knew T-SQL could be so violent?

Together we'll explore derived tables, sub-queries, APPLY clauses, and window functions. But wait, there's more. How about a double string-split? We'll even dust off our disused friend CROSS JOIN.

You'll leave with an appreciation of just how much you can do with a single T-SQL statement.
Speaker Bio:

Riley Major is an Enterprise Architect based in the Twin Cities, MN metro area who enjoys collaborating with business leaders to design and build technical solutions. He’s been programming and designing databases since he was a kid and doing so professionally for 20 years. He has a special place in his heart for T-SQL in SQL Server and loves to share that enthusiasm.

#2: Eric Zierdt

Topic:
SQL Server agent for the non-sysadmin

Abstract:

Abstract: one of the many reasons that developers request sysadmin access to SQL Server is because of the limitations placed on them with the job agent feature. We have long been able to grant them job operator roles in the msdb database, but that comes with many limitations like for example an active directory group cannot be a job owner and somebody with the job operator role is only able to modify jobs that they own. I've been working to come up with a strategy to allow non-sysadmins to have more control over the job agent feature, including modification of jobs that they do not own. While this does come with some security risks, in the right situations this is a useful tool.
Speaker

Bio:

Eric is the SQL Server Architect for Boston Scientific, as well as a current and past board member for PASSMN. Eric has spoken at every SQLSaturday Minnesota and has spoken at several SQLSaturdays around the region.
