Presentation topics, abstracts, speaker bio for this meeting:
#1: Sarita Garg
Topic:
Quantum Computing and Azure Quantum
Abstract:
Quantum computing holds the promise to solve some of our planet's biggest challenges -in the areas of environment, agriculture, health, energy, climate, materials science, government, finance, and others we haven't encountered yet. For some of these problems, even our most powerful computers and super computers run into problems. While quantum tech is just beginning to impact the computing world, it could be far-reaching and change the way we think about computing. IBM, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and other companies are investing heavily in developing large-scale quantum computing hardware and software.
In this presentation we will share information about what is quantum computing? Difference between classic and quantum computers. How do quantum computers work? Benefits of quantum computing. Overview of Microsoft quantum and Azure quantum. Azure quantum learning path. Future of Microsoft and Azure quantum.
Speaker Bio:
Sarita Garg has over 15 years’ experience working with SQL Server and SQL data warehouse. Experienced in MPP architecture working with Cray Supercomputer Systems, Microsoft PDW/APS Data Warehouse, SQL Server, and AWS. Providing Solution, Design, & Delivery of infrastructure build to migrate, upgrade, and integrate legacy and Merger & Acquisition systems into private and public cloud. Passionate about learning new and emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and High Performance Computing (HPC).
#2: Brandon Leach
Topic:
SQL Server Configuration and Deployment with PowerShell DSC
Abstract:
Provisioning a new SQL Server instance is not just about the install. Oftentimes we have to go through a litany of post configuration steps that must be performed. When we do this manually, we are far more likely to make mistakes. Additionally, configuration can change over time. These changes need to be managed and unexpected changes can cause issues. Can you say for certain that your systems are configured exactly as you expect?
PowerShell's Desired State Configuration (DSC) is a key tool for moving towards a culture of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) in a Windows environment. It can help make your deployments more consistent while speeding them up. Additionally, it can help you monitor, report, and correct configuration drift automatically.
In this session, we will go over the core principles of Infrastructure as Code, the various components of DSC, and how to use them. We will then use DSC to deploy and configure SQL Server with the push of a button.
Bio:
Brandon Leach is a Microsoft Data Platform MVP and is the Vice President of Database Operations for a major financial company. With a data estate of several petabytes, he puts a high focus on performance tuning and automation at scale. He is a frequent speaker at events like conferences and user groups.
