Machine Learning Porto #2 - Generative Models
Details
Hey folks!
We had blast on our first event and we hope you did as well!
Our second event is just around the corner, on the 6th of February.
This time we will have the pleasure of having Diogo Pernes from INESC TEC who will be giving us a primer on Generative Models

Title:
Generative Models
Abstract:
Understanding and learning the structure of data is the holy grail of machine learning. Generative models are one of the unsupervised learning approaches to achieve this ultimate goal. In this presentation, we will see what generative models are and why they are useful. We will have a special focus on deep generative models, which have achieved remarkable results on artificial intelligence tasks that were beyond our imagination a decade ago.
About the speaker:
Diogo Pernes holds a Master’s degree in Electrical and Computers Engineering from the University of Porto since 2014. He as worked for about two years at Synopsys, Inc. as an ASIC digital design engineer. Currently, he is a researcher at INESC TEC and a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at the University of Porto, with the supervision of Prof. Jaime S. Cardoso. His main research interests are learning algorithms for sequential data and deep learning, mostly applied to computer vision tasks.
