This MeetUp will be held at our home location, BBC Broadcast Centre, White City (201 Wood Lane, London W12 7TQ). **THANK YOU** Please join us at our home location of BBC Broadcast Centre, White City Place, for the November edition of our Machine Learning Fireside Chats. Let's gather around the 4K TV fireplace for a bite to eat and a beverage, and tune into a panel discussion of industry practitioners and experts. The Growth of AI in Supply Chain "Amazon had 45,000 robots working in their 20 fulfillment centers a year ago. They were predicting to double that each year. Yet my predicted shopping basket has not yet arrived at my door before I ordered it. I also have not seen Robby ( picking up the items I did not want at the end... Research says that 47% of supply chain leaders believe that AI technology will be disruptive to the industry. From accurate and personalized demand forecasts and minimized inventory levels, self-driving trucks in stock delivery driving fully optimized routes, warehouses populated (and planned by!) robots and automated sorting and packaging. There are organizations heavily betting on that transformation and investing significant capital in research and testing. No wonder supply chain is estimated to generate 12% contribution to the economy in the US, looks like the risk of not investing is higher than doing nothing. This time over a glass of wine and nibbles we will have data scientists, researchers and technologists discussing the latest progression of data enabled innovation in the warehouses, logistics and transportation. As well as the ethical and economic impact of the changes in progress. And while this is happening, I am still hoping for a proper post-Xmas sales despite all efforts and promise of technology to fully optimize inventories and remove left overs...see you there!" - Magda Piatkowska Host @ BBC Machine Learning Fireside Chats Team Our confirmed guests are: Katherine James, Royal Mail Kat James is the Deputy Head of Data Science at Royal Mail, where she has been working on developing AI assistants for front line colleagues, using GPS data from IoT to model behaviors and team growth and mentoring.
