THANK YOU
Over the last few years, digital advertising has experienced some bad press.
The dominating forces of Google and Facebook, alleged manipulation of voting behaviours, a careless approach to data privacy and algorithms chasing wrong signals like demographics…the list of crimes continues and might lead the public to think - is this truly the end?
However, despite these challenges, consumers continue shifting their buying and decision-making habits online. Access to more data, greater computing power and ML give technologists the ability to innovate. AdTech facilitates the sale of products for advertisers and brands, and media organisations are holding on to their prime revenue stream.
Now, in the face of upcoming elections, we'll speak with technologists and industry experts and ask what can be done to avoid the AdTech apocalypse.
We will be joined by :
Lara Izlan, Director, Advertising Data & Analytics at ITV - Lara is responsible for developing data partnerships, products, and analytics to power ITV's advanced advertising proposition. Lara's previous roles in media brands like Disney and AOL, and her experience leading programmatic teams at Telegraph and AutoTrader put her at the heart of the ad tech sector. Lara also holds a full time MBA from LBS.
Ozoda Muminova - Founder and Director of The Good Insight, which delivers data & research for ethical companies. Previously worked in data & research roles in the media sector: Guardian, BBC, Telegraph.
Dr Douglas McIlwraith, VP Data Science, Unruly - Douglas holds a PhD from Imperial College London and has spent nearly a decade working in advertising technology. He currently leads the data science and data engineering functions at Unruly, a News Corp company. He is the Author of the Manning title ‘Algorithms of the Intelligent Web, 2nd Ed’ and has published in diverse fields of computer science including machine learning, distributed systems, ubiquitous computing, pervasive sensing, robotics, and security.
We will discuss the true state of technology, current and future applications of ML within the advertising ecosystem. We will explore the impact on businesses and consumers, benefits and risks for the media industry and what makes for effective governance. Finally, we will ask whether responsibilities lie with creators of algorithms, businesses, public and/or the government.
Please click on this ad (it will track you down sooner or later) to join us for a glass of beverage and nibbles on the evening of the 9th of October at the Sammy Ofer Centre at London Business School.
