It's been a few years but I'll be making another run to pick up an order of Beef from Earth-Be-Glad Farm. Many of you may not remember but as a group we sent out a questionnaire to a list of farms in our area to find farms that lived up to the standards of farming that we wanted. Including animal welfare, as well as making sure that the animals were raised in a manner that promotes optimal health for animals and consumers. Of those that answered with the response we were looking for (about 7/30), Earth-Be Glad came out as by far the cheapest. The first year we got 3 beef cows and the second we got a total of 4. 4 is the max that is available, and I'm getting 2 for myself. So there's 2 available to the group. The meat is 100% grass fed using a rotational grazing system, and is certified organic. No antibiotics, chemicals, or vaccines. The price per pound is $3.15 hanging weight, whether you get an 1/8 or a whole cow since we're doing it all as one order. Which comes to about $6 on your plate. Each quarter is about 100#s of meat on your plate from about 150#s hanging weight. Overall cost based on these averages for a quarter/split-side would be about $488 for the beef and about $110 for processing, depending on cutting order. This is a significant savings over purchasing your grass-fed beef by the individual cuts at retail prices. I will need a $250 deposit for each quarter. The rest will be payed on the 18th of January at pickup. Pickup with be at a park and ride off of Stoughton Rd near the belt-line, or you can meet me at my house in Janesville. I also divide up the cost of gas by everyone that gets meat, as it's about 6 hours round trip. It's about $100 total. When the meat gets to the butcher, you will need to call the butcher to put in your cutting order. It's a very simple process that the butcher will walk you through. Basically how many steaks per package? How thick do you want your steaks? Do you want the round as plain steaks, tenderized, or ground into burger?.. You can do as little as an 1/8, but you'll have to split it with someone, and agree to use the same cutting order, and divide it yourselves from a quarter. Otherwise, you can get a quarter or more by yourself. How much you can get will depend on how many people sign up. But you can get at least a quarter if you're one of the first 8 to sign up (this is listed on multiple meetups). Just say how much you want in the comments section when you RSVP. If you put in a deposit and you change your mind, and I am unable to get someone else that wants it, you will forfeit your deposit as I will have to put it towards a freezer to hold the meat that I didn't order and will have to pay for. Be sure to get your best value by requesting your share of the organ meats, tallow, and marrow bones... It's already included in the price! If you have any questions please feel free to ask! In the past the spots went fast, so sign up soon. And if the spots don't fill up from our group, EBG farm will have to fill the other spots. So the spots must be reserved long before pickup date.
