How to set up your profile so you receive notification emails

A few of you have told me yesterday that you have not been receiving the meetup emails, so I set up a “Test” event (not a real meetup, just a “shell”) to see if you receive the messages. We had 12 people RSVP yes and 8 said no (thank you for your help, guys!) but I did not see an RSVP or a comment by any of you that contacted me. :-(

Let me explain how Meetup works and hopefully that helps those that have problems. :)
Our group has 393 members, 346 are on the mailing list. (The rest have opted out or their emails have been undeliverable five times in a row and were automatically removed from the list.) When I send out a group email (like this one), it goes to everyone on the mailing list. It’s  group email, and it’s sent using the [address removed] email address. My emails have a high likelihood of ending up in your spam folder because I send out so many at once and because I’ve been using this email address for 10 years+.

When I set up an event that is more than a month away, I do not send out a notification about it, to reduce the number of emails sent. However, I always set up an automated email chain, and you will receive automated reminders from the email address [address removed] a month before, 2 weeks before, a week before, 2 days before, the day before, and finally on the day of the event.
Depending on what you have marked under your Meetup profile at, you will also receive emails about/when:

a new Meetup is announced

changes are made to a Meetup you’re attending

comments on a Meetup you’ve attending

a confirmation that you've RSVP'd

ratings for Meetups you've attended are posted

Someone posts event greetings for Meetups I've attended

photos uploaded for a Meetup I attended

being tagged in a photo or having a tag added to a photo you uploaded

Someone comments on a photo I uploaded, was tagged in, or commented on

Special announcements from Organizer(s) to members

when this Meetup Group's message board is updated

Furthermore, you can also set up to receive these notifications as they are sent, or once a day, or not at all. So essentially it’s in your hands: you can be notified of everything or nothing, or anything in between. If you find that you are not notified of the details you’d like to find out, you will need to update your profile settings. If all else fails, please check the site more often (daily if you need to) and that way you will not miss out.

I know it is frustrating to not be able to attend an event you would like to go to, but we have migrated toward smaller events out of necessity. We do not have enough hosts and the ones that we have live in smaller homes, so they cannot accommodate more people. But these smaller events seem to work great too. At our last potluck at Barna’s we had a 100% attendance, as opposed to some previous events, where we might have 70-80%. I would still love to have those of you with larger homes volunteer to host, but our group can make due with what we have. The events are really fun in a huge group, but also very nice and more intimate in smaller groups.
I hope this solves it for everyone and see you soon.

P.s. I will be away from email and phone for the next few days, but I will get back to you after Tuesday, the 12.Have a great weekend.
